Happy 57th Birthday to Joe Montana. To celebrate Joe we’ll hit you with some of his career highlights throughout the day.
First up is the 1979 Cotton Bowl, also known as the Chicken Soup Game. The game was played in Dallas, in frigid temps, with Joe’s Fighting Irish facing the Houston Cougars. Houston was up 20 -12 at halftime and when the teams emerged from the locker rooms to start the 3rd quarter, Montana wasn’t there. Joe had the flu and was dealing with hypothermia. Coaches covered him in blankets and fed him chicken soup throughout the 3rd quarter. He returned to the game in the 4th, with 7:37 to play, and proceeded to lead the Irish to a stunning comeback, capping it off with a winning td pass as time expired. Notre Dame 35 - Houston 34. The Comeback Kid was born.
